Afua Asantewaa Aduonum was born in 1978 in Kumasi, Ghana. She is the daughter of Nana Kwaku Aduonum, a renowned musicologist and composer, and Nana Afua Asantewaa  a queen mother of Ejisu.

She attended Wesley Girls’ High School in Cape Coast, where she developed her passion for media and communication. She then studied journalism and mass communication at the Ghana Institute of Journalism in Accra, graduating in 2000. She also holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Ghana Business School.

She is currently pursuing a doctorate in media and communication at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. She is fluent in English, Twi, and French.
